It took awhile for this piece to arrive as an inspiration. I wanted to work with tiger maple and walnut again, but the design didn’t materialize until last week. This piece can be found at the https://www.stanhopeandspencergallery.com/ gallery in Rockland, Maine (right next door to the Farnsworth Museum), and I wanted something special to add to several of my pieces there.
A narrow inlay of walnut is placed onto the tiger maple top with a circular pattern on one side and a partially symmetrical pattern on the other side. The apron is traditionally recessed from the legs which are tapered and cut from a single piece of walnut to enhance the grain.
One way of visualization: the end table is shaped like a boat and the somewhat mysterious fish floats on tiger maple ocean waves.
